Damage to business property can include damage to inventory stock, windows, structures and equipment. Any of these things can be damaged by storm, flood, fire, smoke or water. Even goods in transit can be damaged, and so can be covered. Some policies carry clauses that exclude "Acts of God," but coverage under a rider or separate policy is available. Theft is also a type of damage, and in fact, anything that interrupts the flow of businesses and causes a loss of income can be covered.

These two types of polices (liability and damage) are now being offered in a single package known as a Business Owner Package Policy, or Business Owner Policy. This policy combines both liability and property damage into one policy at a lower cost than both policies obtained separately. Additional coverage beyond the financial maximums that are covered can be obtained under what is called an umbrella policy.

The way a property is used is, of course, a factor in the type of policy that is needed. Warehouses that do not have public access will not see the type of liability risk that a Burger King lobby or Macy's type department store will see. Likewise, a small business that offers services might have very little stock, yet have valuable data stored on computers, as well as offices where employees meet with clients, thereby needing both damage and liability liability.

Commercial Premise Insurance is a necessity for any ongoing business. Failure obtain a policy with the right coverage to cover the right amount of financial loss can result in a business closing its doors when they are sued. Fortunately, such policies are widely available to those who ask questions.
